MG Hazel Custom + G-Parts Hrududu

I actually like the Hazel and was quite happy when someone asked me to commission it. However I sorely underestimated the effort needed just to make this kit look good, and I think it was probably the longest build I’ve ever had to work on. It’s based on the Gundam Mk2 ver2.0, which while itself is a good kit, is kinda basic by today’s standards. Some surfaces are pretty bare, and there are also a multitude of areas which don’t have the correct colour separation. By the end of the build I was quite worn out by all the detail painting that needed and retries on several parts.

Here’s the laundry list of detail painting that was needed/done:

  • Red “fingernails”
  • Grey pipe on the front of the knees
  • Yellow pipes on the head
  • Yellow pipe on the booster shield
  • Back sides of the shields
  • Black on the yellow shoulder vents
  • Black vents in the yellow leg vents
  • Red circles on the booster shield
  • V symbol on the crotch
  • Grey pipe on the cockpit hatch

Furthermore you don’t really get any generic decals, just Titans’ markings. I cannibalized some leftover decals from an MG Unicorn sheet as well as some Hi-Q and other 3rd party markings.

Ultimately, unless you’re a super fan of the Hazel design, I’d recommend avoiding this kit. If you do get it though, I’d suggest going all out and just getting the extra 2 Hrududu units to go with it. I know I’ll definitely be building the Hazel Rah second form for myself in the future, after a loooong break to get this one out of my system.

As this was a commission build, I opted not to pose or combine the kit(s) so the client could enjoy the build for themselves.
